100 new jobs: Freudenberg expands medical device manufacturing at Galway site

  • 16 million catheters per year to be produced on 20,000 square meters at two sites in Ireland

Weinheim, October 2 2023 . The Freudenberg Medical Business Group, a leading global development and manufacturing partner for minimally invasive medical technology, today opens its expanded facility in Galway, Ireland. 100 new jobs will be created there. Dr Mohsen Sohi, CEO of the Freudenberg Group officially opened the expanded site. The expansion is a strategic step to meet the increasing global demand for so called hypotubes, which are a critical component of catheters for minimally invasive surgery. It also enables Freudenberg Medical to develop increasingly complex products to serve customers worldwide.

The facility will increase the existing production area by 50 percent, while the newly announced jobs will increase the workforce by 25 percent. This will bring the total number of employees in Galway to 400 within the next 18 months. The new jobs include positions in engineering, research and development, production, quality and support services.

Speaking at the opening, Dr Mohsen Sohi said: "Galway, Ireland, is an internationally recognised centre for medical technology. We are creating 100 new jobs at our expanded Freudenberg Medical site in Galway to support our future growth."

Freudenberg Medical employs more than 1,000 people in Ireland and has a total production area of 20,000 square metres at its plants in Galway and Co. Leitrim. Together, the Irish operations manufacture more than 16 million complex catheters per year, serving a global customer base. Freudenberg Medical has sites in major medical technology centres in the USA, Europe, Asia and Costa Rica. The Irish sites were originally established as joint venture partnerships with Cambus Medical and VistaMed, which have now been integrated into Freudenberg Medical. The business group generated sales of around 327 million euros last year.
